Iam an Australian who has been living and working in Japan for two years- so i have an Alien registration. I want to visit Beijing over Christmas Dec 24-Jan 1. The problem is my current Visa expires January nine. My company is renewing my contract but i wouldnt be able to process this with immigration until i returned from this trip. Can I get a Visa at the embassy in Tokyo- or is there another option?

Mr.Burville, I think it is possible for you to get a visa in Tokyo if you provide all requirements to Chinese emabssy in Tokyo: Certificate of alien registration; A valid passport with enough blank pages; one filled Visa Application Form glued One recently taken, bareheaded, full-faced photo; A Chinese hotel reservation certificate and a two-way air ticket
