excursion from hkg to shenzhensame day back to hkg

I'm Swiss and my girlfriend Thai staying for holidays in HKG. We would like to spend a day (24 hours) visit to Shenzhen. Do we need to apply for a visa, or can we get a 24 hours free visa at the boarder coming from HKG?

You can apply for a 5-day visa on arrival at Huanggang, Luohu or Shekou ports but I'm not sure if a Thai passport holder can get it successfully. By the way, your return trip from HK - Shenzhen - HK is not eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit.
