Can I request for an extension before expiry date of my visa.

If you are outside China, your visa cannot be extended and you can only apply for another one.
If you are in China, you can go to extend the visa in Public Security Bureau (PSM) Exit and Entry Administration office for the municipality where you will be 'resident' on the night following the submission of the application.
