chinese tourist visa in Bangkok

I'm planning to get to Thailand for 10 days holiday and then jump into China.
I heard very ugly stories about getting the Chinese visa in Bangkok.
Anyone has clear idea of what do they ask and how long takes to get a 30 or 60 days L.
Is the visa starting since the moment you get it or when you do enter in China?
Thanks
Zhenxin

Hi, if you are in Spain now, you'd better apply for a Chinese tourist visa in advance. To apply in Thailand, they requrire Thai residence permit or long-term visa there. A single entry China L is valid for 3 months from issue date, so it is ok for use if you will stay in Thailand for 10 days only. The regular processing from the embassy takes 4 working days. The duration starts from the day you enter China.

I'm in South India now, veeery far away from any Thai or Chinese consular office
Thanks for your answer. Are you sure the usual 30 days you get on arrival in Thailand are not enough to prove your status as a tourist
I guess they will do as they fancy

You can contact the embassy in Bangkok for more information on this if possible. As I know they are strict with documents required. Or, you can try to call at+91-11-4356 5225, 4300 7563 if you can handle your application in India.
