what is the best way to get to cruise port Xingang from Beijing- most Internet sites refer to car transfer- and lengthly ride- would prefer shorter ride and not too expensive-  but no specific info is included on how to get to port from last train stop? what is best? would it be cheaper on car transfer if we arranged it after we get to Beijing- we will be there a few days.

You are advised to take express train from Beijing to Tianjin. It takes about 30 minutes and is available every other 15 minites per day. Then when you arrive in Tianjin, you can take taxi to Xingang port directly or take bus to Tangggu railway station, then change another bus No.102 to Xingang port.

It is suggested that you take a bullet train (CNY77/adult) from Beijing South Railway Station to Tianjin Tanggu Railway Station firstly. There are only 5 trains could be taken everyday, C2271, C2273, C2275, C2277 and C2279. By any of them, you could arrive in Tianjin in one hour. The Xingang Port is located about 10km away from the Tanggu Railway Station, so the best method is taking a cab to arrive there. The cab fare is about CNY20 only.
