About:Farmers' Caves

Greetings to anyone viewing this:
I will be arriving (for the 1st time) to China on June 30th and will visit Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing (4th-19th) then Xian and Beijing. July 20th will be my Xian visit. I am "SO" excited to come for this visit. I will spend 5 weeks of touring and teaching English. I have been learning just by reading comments from all you helpful people. Might you be able to suggest a location to purchace silk fabric? Also, would you recommend mailing a box of things (gift items) back to Chicago so I won't have to carry items with me? Thanks.

Beth:

I've lived in Shanghai for years.
You can mail things by surface mail cheaply from China, but it takes 10 weeks to the US. For twice the price you can mail a package by SAL mail (Sea-Air-Land) and it gets there around 3 weeks (2-4 weeks. Also reasonable and what I usually use. Airmail is double SAL price and 10-14 days.

If you are buying a lot of stuff, it might work well for you. I'd rec SAL. But at the PO you can ask them the Airmail, SAL and Surface Mail price for your package and then choose.

For silk fabric, I'd suggest Shanghai, which is close to Suzhou and Hangzhou, the major producing area of silk.
