If you go to Shanghai for a transit, for example, Canada - Shanghai - the third country or region (can't be Canada), then you can enjoy the 144-hour visa-free transit and stay in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang for 6 days. If not for a transit, then you will need to apply for a visa in advance in Canada.
