About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Beijing 24 or 72 transit visa?

I am traveling with my wife and a son, from Rome to Seoul with 23 hour layover in Beijing. I would like to go out of the airport and stay at a hotel, or visit the city during that time. Do we need a visa? 24 hour visa or 72(144) hour visa? and how do we apply one? we are all US citizens.

You are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit. This is not a visa so you don't need any visa. You can apply for a temporary entry permit at the Beijing Capital Airport directly.
