Visa on arrival for Guangzhou

I know I can fly to Guangzhou and then travel to HK with a visa on arrival. Can I do it the other way? Going by land (not flying) from HK to China and then flying out (with a ticket already booked of course).

It's a pity that Guangzhou doesn't have any visa on arrival. If you mean 144-hour visa-free transit, it is only eligible when you fly into Guangzhou.
