Chinese wife with valid China passport spend night in Hong Kong to catch flight to Shanghai

I have seen information on the web that she can stay in Hong Kong for 7 days without a visa. However. We only need to spend one night to connect in the airport area. It may be the same when we return. Is this correct? I want to book our tickets soon. Thank you

Yes, your Chinese wife can stay in HK for up to 7 days without a visa, by showing her Chinese passport and the flight tickets arriving in and leaving HK.
