About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling through Beijing to reach japan

My wife (pakistani passprt) and i (British passport) are travelling to japan transitting Beijing airport. Onward journey has 1hr stay and return journey has 16 hrs stay at Beijing airport. Do we both need a transit visa? Early response would be greatly appreciated.

Pakistani passport requires a visa for all transits. UK passport can transit up to 144 hours on a single china stop transit.
