About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

What does an asterisk mean?

I extended my visa and on the entery(s) it doesn't state a 1 or a 2, it just has an "*". I was gonna apply for a student X1 type in China. And was hoping that I didn't have to fly all the way back to my country to do so. So I tried extending my L type and I got this no category visa, with * entery(s).

That's an extension visa, so it will no longer be valid once you have left China. The asterisk means that the visa does not authorize re-entry into China.
