US citizen - Can I stay in Shanghai few days prior to embarking Princess Majestic cruise ship

I and my wife plan to take a trip on Princess Majestic cruise sailing from Shanghai and disembark in Singapore next year 2018. We will flight into Shanghai PVG airport, stay in a local hotel and visit capital of Shanghai for few days before embark on the cruise ship. Are we eligible for 144 hour free transit?
