Shan, if you will go there for tourism purpose, you should first prepare those materials including copy of your passport, a completed application form, a passport-style photo, bank savings account, flight itinerary, accommodation arrangement, and your travel plan. And then go to the embassy of China to submit the application.
4 working days are needed to get the result if the application is processed by the embassy; but if the application is transferred to HK immigration department, 4 to 6 weeks are needed.
