From X-type to F-type

Hi! I am finishing my exchange studies in Shanghai, so I currently have a X-type until end of July. However, I am staying in SH do to my 5 month internship after finishing with school, so I need to get a new visa. Since it is an unpaid internship, I need to apply for F-type, right? Is it possibe to change from student to trainee, how does it work?

Salla, although your internship is unpaid, it will last for 5 months, I’m afraid you need to apply for a work Z type for it.
You can convert your student X type to work Z type. The required documents include your passport, the application form affixed with a passport-sized color photo, temporary residence registration form, work permit and an invitation letter of a duly authorized unit. And then submit the application to the exit and entry administration of the local PSB to change X type to Z type.
