Acquiring a visa while living in Japan

I currently live and work in Japan and plan on visiting an old friend from Shanghai. However, I currently live in Japan and hadn't realized I would need an entry permit to enter. I am a US citizen and am a little worried that I might not be able to acquire my emtry permit in Japan. Is this possible?

Mac, since you are living and working in Japan, you can apply from there for the Chinese entry permit. The original and photocopy of your work permit or residence permit will be required.
