Anna, if his next destination is a third country or region, then he can make use of the 72h free transit service. He should inform the flight attendants that he wants to make use of this policy before the flight arrives at Guangzhou. Then upon arrival at Guangzhou, just go to the 72h free transit application counter and go thorugh all formalities. After all is done, he can leave the airport.
