Passport with less than 6 months validity (Malaysia to China)

I am a Malaysian holding Malaysian passport. I have a valid M category visa to China, single entry expiring Nov 2014. My passport expires on 7 March 2015. I plan to travel out to China on 6 Sep 2014 (passport valid 6 months), but returning on 11 Sep 2014 (passport valid < 6 months). I asked the China visa processing center in Kuala Lumpur (an outsourced company not related to the China Consulate) and they told me I need to renew my passport and then re-apply for a visa on the new passport.
However when I read all the Q&A here, it does seem I am okay to travel without having to renew passport or reapply a new visa, which is too much of a hassle getting invitation letters again. Are they saying that because they are an outsourced company earning commission from visa processing? Or is it really okay for me to travel during that time? Thanks much!!

Hi, SY, currently, you have got your M type, right?
If so, it is OK to travel with your current M type and the current passport as your arrangemen. Pleas do not worry.
