Shipping from US to Beijing China, any ideas on why it's taking this long?

Tracking number is LC105833834US. This package left the US on January 7, 2014. I have been informed by the recipient that the package is still not received up to date. I've shipped before to China and it has never taken this long. What's odd is when I track the parcel via usps tracking system, it states the package left the US and is on its way to China. However, per EMS tracking, it states the package is still in the US, with a date of January 3, 2014. This was the date I dropped off the package at the postal office.
