About:China Visa Application in UK

Hi,can i not go directly to the embassy in london to save on processing fees of £36pp

No, you have to apply through CVASC. This service center is introduced by the embassy actually, and the embassy only accept application from diplomatic/official passport holders and applications to HK and Macao.
