About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am an American passport holder residing in Japan.

I want to spend three days in Bejing then move forward to Thailand. The description says I need proof of ongoing ticket but also a valid VISA from the next country. However, Thailand does not require a VISA for American citizens. What should I do? I do have a VISA for entry into Japan after leaving Thailand

It's ok. Just show your onward flight ticket, passport and the Visa to Japan, and you are allowed to transfer for free visa and get out of the airport for maximum 72h.
