At that time, the Buddhism was very popular among the folks. However, the content of the Buddhism scriptures was difficult to understand, even for the Buddhist experts. Therefore, in order to have a better understanding of the scriptures, the emperors appointed Tang Xuanzang to get the religion scriptures from Tianzhu (Present India).
