Transit visa or stay permit?

Hi I have 10 hours time between two connecting flights from London to Auckland in Guangzhou. I would like to leave the airport and check out the city. Do I have to apply for a transit visa in advance or will I be able to get a 24 hour stay permit at the airport? Thank you.

You'd better apply for a transit visa in advance from Chinese embassy or consulate in your area.
