what is the new marriage certificate authentication ?

I am renewing my work visa and now they require an authenticated marriage certificate from america for my wife (american).  In the past I showed them my marriage certificate.  My understanding is that this is something the Chinese embassy in the usa must issue.  I cant find any information on this anywhere.  Can someone help?

The marriage certificate should be first certificated by Secretary of the State in which the document is executed, then certificated by China embassy or relevant Consulate - General in USA according to consular districts.
