About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

I have dual citizenship of US and Hong Kong. I plan to fly directly from US to Beijing next month, can I enter China with just my HK ID and the home return permit (回乡证)?

Home Return Permit are not designed for US citizen to return directly to mainland China. So, you need to enter from HK.
