About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

What are the "basics" for a college sophomore who plans to be in Shanghai for eight weeks this summer and would like to earn some spending money with part time work? He will be working as an intern two or three mornings a week (and has the necessary employment letter and visa.) Is he allowed to also work for pay teaching English, or some other part time work? Is there a distinction between and F visa and a Z visa in this regard? Thank You.

In principal, you are not permitted to work in China because you get the F visa for internship in China, however, the police won't check your visa in most situations, so you can work by holding this visa.
