I am planning to go to Nanjing early next year and from there I want to go to Kaifeng in Henan province. I want to go there either by bus or train. Can someone please tell me what if the distance from Nanjing to Keifeng  by bus/train and what is the best mode of transport there.

There is no direct train from Nanning to Kaifeng. You should get to Zhengzhou firest and then chang bus to Kaifeng. T190 is the fatest train, taking 20.5 hours from Nanning to ZHengzhou. If you want to go to Kaifeng city, you can change to another train at Zhengzhou. There are nearly 50 trains from Zhengzhou to Kaifeng, including bullet train. It takes 30-50 minutes only. If you want to get to Shaolin Temple/Songshan Mountain, suggest you take direct shuttle bus from Zhengzhou.
